You’ll discover magical places eatilled with a rich history in enchanting sceneries. You’ll learn the main facts and see the highlights of Quebec City’s historical center. Like the famous Place royale, Château Frontenac, City Hall and cathedrals (Catholic and Anglicane). Because this tour is seasonal, provided during winter only, we’ll focus on the influence of the cold season on historical events, local culture and architecture.
The Winter Walking Tour stands outside, in the quaint streets of Old Port & Petit Champlain (Lower Town) and Old Quebec (Upper Town), but we’ll make warm breaks inside buildings.
To tease you, here are some winter topics : Bonhomme Carnaval and the biggest winter carnaval of the world, impact of the ice bridge on the economy, ice canoeing, siege of 1775 with Benedict Arnold…
Important notice :
- The Musée de la Civilisation don’t sell any tickets for the Winter Walking Tour, they only greet us to meet each other and start.
- Please wear warm clothes, warm socks, warm shoes. Even if we do warm breaks, we’ll spend most of the time outside. Winter here is very cold and windy. Ski suits are useful and you should consider something warm like this.
How to get there ?
The Musée de la Civilisation has two entrances: one on Dalhousie Street and the other one on Saint-Pierre Street. The meeting location is inside the museum, nearby the boutique and Saint-Pierre entrance.
Amazing Experience with Xavier. Marcos and I had an amazing time and learned a lot about Quebec’s history, definitely worth it !! ❤️
By Guisell (New Jersey) on Airbnb (2020)Xavier is a clever, knowledgeable and warm ambassador for Québec City! I and my two kids enjoyed the tour immensely.
By Jeanine (Philadelphia) on Airbnb (2020)Well worth every minute of it! Perfect to start your visit to Quebec City.
By Danielle (Illinois) on Airbnb (2020)This tour was such a pleasure! Xavier learned all of our names before we began and personalized parts of the tour based on our interests. He has obviously done a lot of research, including a combination of both information about the evolution of the area since its founding and personal stories to which one might not normally be exposed. We really enjoyed this tour and would happily recommend it to anyone.
By Jon (Dallas) on Airbnb (2020)Xavier is a seasoned guide and knew so much about the city! He checked in on us frequently to make sure we were warm and provided us with an extensive itinerary of what to wear to keep warm beforehand. We had a small group so Xavier made our tour very personable. We brought our dog on the tour and Xavier made the appropriate arrangements for us to accommodate her (she could not go inside most places, but the tour was all outdoors so it was ok!). Overall, it was an amazing tour and Xavier is a seasoned pro - if you’re considering this tour, just do it!
By Danielle (Toronto) on Airbnb (2020)Xavier was a great guide that was excited to show us around town. You could tell that he has done his research and has a great background of knowledge. He was able to make accommodations for us as we had brought our dog on the tour. As it wasn’t too cold that day, almost the entire tour was outside, so we had no issues bringing our dog with us (sorry for the barking!). The value in the tour can’t be understated. Xavier gives you a thorough tour with great in-depth detail. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Quebec City!
By David (Toronto) on Airbnb (2020)Excellent guide and experience. Highly recommend. Xavier was very engaging, personable and knowledgable. He really went to extra lengths to ensure his guests were enjoying the tour, such as offering feet warmers at no cost! Very generous. I did the tour with my two young adult daughters, we all really enjoyed it. Take Xaviers advise regarding warm clothing. Great experience.
By Margo Halbert (Australia) on Google Review (2020)Xavier gave us a great tour! It was clear how inspired and passionate he is about Quebec City history, and went out of his way to make the tour fun for us (even in the snow!) I would highly recommend 🙂
By Allegra Roth (California) on Google Review (2020)Great guide and experience
Xavier was an excellent tour guide for this winter trip. He was warm and friendly with great recall for names. He even had foot warmers to make sure his guests were comfortable in the cold. We both enjoyed how he communicated the culture of Quebec through his stories and historical touchstones. Highly recommended.
By Stuffsf on Tripadvisor (2020)Very Fun Tour!
I highly enjoyed this tour! Xavier was great at explaining Quebec history and bringing it to life. He also made everyone feel included in the discussions and would ask us questions every now and then. Definitely dress properly if you're coming during winter. Xavier sends really good tips for dressing warmly a few days in advance. Highly recommend this tour!!
