You’ll discover magical places eatilled with a rich history in enchanting sceneries. You’ll learn the main facts and see the highlights of Quebec City’s historical center. Like the famous Place royale, Château Frontenac, City Hall and cathedrals (Catholic and Anglicane). Because this tour is seasonal, provided during winter only, we’ll focus on the influence of the cold season on historical events, local culture and architecture.
The Winter Walking Tour stands outside, in the quaint streets of Old Port & Petit Champlain (Lower Town) and Old Quebec (Upper Town), but we’ll make warm breaks inside buildings.
To tease you, here are some winter topics : Bonhomme Carnaval and the biggest winter carnaval of the world, impact of the ice bridge on the economy, ice canoeing, siege of 1775 with Benedict Arnold…
Important notice :
- The Musée de la Civilisation don’t sell any tickets for the Winter Walking Tour, they only greet us to meet each other and start.
- Please wear warm clothes, warm socks, warm shoes. Even if we do warm breaks, we’ll spend most of the time outside. Winter here is very cold and windy. Ski suits are useful and you should consider something warm like this.
How to get there ?
The Musée de la Civilisation has two entrances: one on Dalhousie Street and the other one on Saint-Pierre Street. The meeting location is inside the museum, nearby the boutique and Saint-Pierre entrance.
This was an awesome tour!... Xavier was very knowledgeable and was sure to check in frequently that we were comfortable with the weather. I highly recommend this tour!!!
By Christy (Hillsborough, North Carolina) on Airbnb (2018)We absolutely were enthralled with Xavier’s Old City tour of Quebec! We learned oodles, enjoyed his sense of humor, and have already recommended him to others! He took great care of our group, checking regularly with all of us to make sure we were warm, comfortable, and could understand him. His knowledge of Quebec is impressive, but even more importantly, he communicated that information in an interesting and fun manner. Thank you, Xavier!!
By Terry (Phoenixville, Pennsylvania) on Airbnb (2018)Xavier was great and very knowledgeable. It was pretty cold and snowy and he offered us many chances to go indoors and warm up. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city for the first time - or anyone that wants a more in depth history of the city.
By Joy (Chicago, Illinois) on Airbnb (2018)It was an amazing walk with Xavier. He was funny and quite helpful. He is adept in Quebec history and familiar with the Quebec citizens who have lived there for generations. It was a great experience and I would suggest anyone visiting Quebec City to take this trip with some extra warm clothes and wool socks.
By Vijay (Sunnyvale, California) on Airbnb (2018)Xavier was not only amazingly knowledgeable but a truly enjoyable person to listen and talk to. He encouraged questions and comments from us a we learned and were fascinated by his energy towards his city. A most enjoyable tour.... one that we will repeat when we return as well as one that should not be missed by anyone.

By Jorge (Hidalgo, México) on Airbnb (2018)"Very enjoyable tour! Xavier is a great guy; and friendly. An effortless way to get to know the old city"
By Alexander (Singapour) on Airbnb (2018)Xavier was an absolute delight! His knowledge of the city and its history was impressive, but it was his honesty and humour that made it exceptional. DEFINITELY take his advice on how to dress for the winter! We are from another cold city, so we had a general idea of what we were up for but, in a rush to leave for our trip to Quebec: I had foolishly left my touque and mittens at home. Fortunately we found a lovely store on St Jean that sells 100% hand-made alpaca items from a collective of families from Peru, so now I have functional souvenirs (headband and mitts) to take home as well. (Sorry for veering off topic here, but it's helpful to know if you also forgot warm items- the store is called Alpaqa). The tour was a perfect amount of time (2hrs) to get get a feel for the city and discover some places that we wanted to go back to visit. I'm glad we went on our first day in town, it was a great start to the trip! Highly recommended, very affordable and great value tour.
By Shannon (Ottawa, Canada) on Airbnb (2018)We really enjoyed this walking tour! The host provided so much interesting knowledge about Quebec!
By Kathleen (Houston, Texas) on Airbnb (2018)Xavier was knowledgeable and enjoyable to listen to on his tour! The two hours went so quick but we didn’t feel relished at all.
