You’ll discover magical places eatilled with a rich history in enchanting sceneries. You’ll learn the main facts and see the highlights of Quebec City’s historical center. Like the famous Place royale, Château Frontenac, City Hall and cathedrals (Catholic and Anglicane). Because this tour is seasonal, provided during winter only, we’ll focus on the influence of the cold season on historical events, local culture and architecture.
The Winter Walking Tour stands outside, in the quaint streets of Old Port & Petit Champlain (Lower Town) and Old Quebec (Upper Town), but we’ll make warm breaks inside buildings.
To tease you, here are some winter topics : Bonhomme Carnaval and the biggest winter carnaval of the world, impact of the ice bridge on the economy, ice canoeing, siege of 1775 with Benedict Arnold…
Important notice :
- The Musée de la Civilisation don’t sell any tickets for the Winter Walking Tour, they only greet us to meet each other and start.
- Please wear warm clothes, warm socks, warm shoes. Even if we do warm breaks, we’ll spend most of the time outside. Winter here is very cold and windy. Ski suits are useful and you should consider something warm like this.
How to get there ?
The Musée de la Civilisation has two entrances: one on Dalhousie Street and the other one on Saint-Pierre Street. The meeting location is inside the museum, nearby the boutique and Saint-Pierre entrance.
"Our walking tour guided by Pierre was superb! He started by giving us a really succinct and easy to follow crash course in Canadian history that he then referred back to over the course of our walk. We walked for over 2 hours all around lower Old Quebec and then up to the upper town. Pierre pointed out the various architectural styles from the different influences (French, British) and gave us a really interesting and detailed explanation of the mural in lower Old City to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec. My favorite part was walking through the ""backyards"" of the lower city houses and learning about the rationale for why things were constructed the way that they were back then. Pierre was careful to frequently check in our comfort levels in the cold and dip into warm buildings intermittently to warm up (and even carried hand and toes warmers for us!) Pierre also went above and beyond the 2-hour official guided tour and took us on a few bonus stops on his way down to the ferry. I highly recommended booking this experience!"
By Gracie (Boston, Massachusetts) on Airbnb (2019)Our tour guide was Pierre! He was really nice and warm! Came a little early and had a little conversation with Pierre and even though I went around the previous day, he managed to engage me in the different sites with his explanations of various locations. Also visited places I did really see previously when walking on my own! It was a very thoughtful and educational experience! :))

By Fanny & Adam (New York) on Airbnb (2019)We couldn’t have chosen a better experience. Xavier was a perfect guide. Very interesting history of Quebec City. Definitely recommend.
By Edward (Chicago) on Airbnb (2019)A completely different -- and fascinating -- version of Quebec City unfolded on this walking tour. Quebec City's history is fascinating and it was also interesting to hear it in context with some US history. We would never ever have learned this in any other way --- unless we wanted to deep dive ourselves. And who wants to do that? Xavier was also funny, a great storyteller and created a great cohesiveness with the group. Best value of our weekend getaway!!

By Rob (Ottawa) on Airbnb (2019)Xavier was awesome and an amazing tour guide! He is very knowledgable about the city and it was a fun experience overall. He wants to make sure you are comfortable, so do not take his messages lightly when he says to dress warmly! I would highly recommend this tour, you will learn lots and time will go by fast!
