You’ll discover magical places eatilled with a rich history in enchanting sceneries. You’ll learn the main facts and see the highlights of Quebec City’s historical center. Like the famous Place royale, Château Frontenac, City Hall and cathedrals (Catholic and Anglicane). Because this tour is seasonal, provided during winter only, we’ll focus on the influence of the cold season on historical events, local culture and architecture.
The Winter Walking Tour stands outside, in the quaint streets of Old Port & Petit Champlain (Lower Town) and Old Quebec (Upper Town), but we’ll make warm breaks inside buildings.
To tease you, here are some winter topics : Bonhomme Carnaval and the biggest winter carnaval of the world, impact of the ice bridge on the economy, ice canoeing, siege of 1775 with Benedict Arnold…
Important notice :
- The Musée de la Civilisation don’t sell any tickets for the Winter Walking Tour, they only greet us to meet each other and start.
- Please wear warm clothes, warm socks, warm shoes. Even if we do warm breaks, we’ll spend most of the time outside. Winter here is very cold and windy. Ski suits are useful and you should consider something warm like this.
How to get there ?
The Musée de la Civilisation has two entrances: one on Dalhousie Street and the other one on Saint-Pierre Street. The meeting location is inside the museum, nearby the boutique and Saint-Pierre entrance.
I loved all the history of Quebec during the walk. If you love history, be sure to book this trip. 🙂 Also, Xavier would send a long message on how to be prepared, proper clothes to wear (in winter especially). Although it might seem intimidating but be sure to read it carefully! It is sooooo useful! I was here only for a quick trip and as I was flying then to a much warmer place after Quebec I do not have enough layers to make myself warm. But luckily I was able to get some proper clothes (ski pants, yes it was very cold the days I was here lol , and some warm gloves and warm patches for the feet). Trust me, when you are well prepared for the cold weather, you would enjoy the walk so much more! Also try some good poutine at Chez Ashton and I also loved the dipped chocolate ice cream at Chocolats favoris (and yes ice cream on freezing weather but I think that’s what made it better LOL). I hope you would enjoy Quebec as much as I did:)

By Cairi (New York City) on Airbnb (2019)We had a great tour with Xavier. He is incredibly knowledgeable and sprinkled lots of interesting stories throughout the tour. We did it as a family and our two teenage sons, 14 and 12, paid attention and had a good time too. He gave us lots of tips for dressing in the Canadian winter which made our entire stay that much more enjoyable. Don’t miss out learning the fascinating history of Quebec City with Xavier!
By Elizabeth (New York City) on Airbnb (2019)He is a great tour guide! Keeps it entertaining as much as informative and intriguing! A great tour that shows important parts in the city with a pinch of history and humor in it for a really good price for two hours! Would 10/10 recommend it!
By Asya (New York) on Airbnb (2019)We really enjoyed this your. Xavier knows the history of Quebec City like the back of his hand. It was fascinating to learn all the fine nuances that you would never know if you ventured out on your own to explore. He is also very aware of the people in the group and checked in with us frequently to see how we were doing. I had really cold feet as my boots were not really appropriate for Quebec City snow and slush. He even had toe warmers to give me! Suede boots are not appropriate for Quebec City my friends! Bring hearty winter boots! Xavier was a great experience host. We fully recommend this tour!
By Toni (Calgary) on Airbnb (2019)Great tour! Very informative, lots of places covered in a relatively short amount of time. He definitely knows the ins and the outs of Old Quebec... where to go, what to see, best places to eat, etc. Xavier enjoys what he does and it shows. He has a great sense of humor and is very personable. I highly recommend this experience. Be sure to follow Xavier’s instructions on how to dress for the winter tour and you will be very glad you did!
