You’ll discover magical places eatilled with a rich history in enchanting sceneries. You’ll learn the main facts and see the highlights of Quebec City’s historical center. Like the famous Place royale, Château Frontenac, City Hall and cathedrals (Catholic and Anglicane). Because this tour is seasonal, provided during winter only, we’ll focus on the influence of the cold season on historical events, local culture and architecture.
The Winter Walking Tour stands outside, in the quaint streets of Old Port & Petit Champlain (Lower Town) and Old Quebec (Upper Town), but we’ll make warm breaks inside buildings.
To tease you, here are some winter topics : Bonhomme Carnaval and the biggest winter carnaval of the world, impact of the ice bridge on the economy, ice canoeing, siege of 1775 with Benedict Arnold…
Important notice :
- The Musée de la Civilisation don’t sell any tickets for the Winter Walking Tour, they only greet us to meet each other and start.
- Please wear warm clothes, warm socks, warm shoes. Even if we do warm breaks, we’ll spend most of the time outside. Winter here is very cold and windy. Ski suits are useful and you should consider something warm like this.
How to get there ?
The Musée de la Civilisation has two entrances: one on Dalhousie Street and the other one on Saint-Pierre Street. The meeting location is inside the museum, nearby the boutique and Saint-Pierre entrance.
Xavier was a wonderful tour guide. Very knowledgeable, fun, created a comfortable group dynamic, and was full of interesting facts with helpful anecdotes from his own life that helped get a good grasp of Quebec and its history. Definitely recommend his tour.
By Jorge (Porto Rico) on Airbnb (2019)Xavier delivered a wonderful tour. Very knowledgeable, Very considerate. It was cold outside but the walk was a lot of fun. He's obviously very passionate about what he does. Thank you, Xavier!
By Bill (Waterloo) on Airbnb (2019)Xavier was amazing! My family and I had such a fun time getting to explore Quebec. Even though it was freezing and snowing Xavier made the tour so fun. My family and I were planning on leaving early originally to get on the road sooner but ended up liking the tour so much we decided to stay the entire time. Xavier has a lot of knowledge about the history and architecture of old Quebec and a fantastic sense of humor which went a long way with my younger siblings who don't usually have much of an attention span. I really enjoyed getting a little glimpse into this amazing city and if I return again (in the summer) I will definitely try to find another of Xavier's tours 🙂
By Aubrey (Boston) on Airbnb (2019)Xavier is an amazing tour guide. Very personable! He took the time to make a connection with every member of the group and made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. His knowledge of Quebec City and its history is beyond compare! The pace in which he delivers information and his friendly demeanour makes for an exceptional experience. One thing to point out are the extremely helpful instructions on how to brace the weather during the walking winter tour. The instructions were detailed and definitely made use prepare adequately and keep very warm as we walked in -20C degree weather. Overall a fantastic experience, we'll definitely be back for Xavier's other tours next time we're in Quebec City.

By Melanie (Montréal) on Airbnb (2019)you will have a great experience with Xavier , he was very polite and knowledgeable about Quebec , I had a good day and learned a lot about Quebec.
By Reynol (New York City) on Airbnb (2019)
By Dorothy (Seoul, South Korea) on Airbnb (2019)Xavier led us around the city on an icy day (yaktracks were ideal for the slippery ice) . The weather made for a bit of an adventure and it was a great time for me and my wife. Xavier tailored the tour for the individual interests and kept a nice pace. I am a casual history buff and it was enough to inform and interest me AND keep my wife engaged and enjoying the same things. We recommend! Well done!
By Josh (Saint Paul, Minnesota) on Airbnb (2019)Xavier es un amante de la cultura Quebequence y lo comparte. Un recorrido muy útil para adentrarte en Quebec.
By Ne (Mexico City) on Airbnb (2019)This tour was the perfect way to get to know the city. We took the tour on our first full day in Québec City, and it helped a lot in getting us oriented. Tour guide Xavier was exceptional! Knowledgeable, entertaining, and helpful. He checked in with us a lot, to make sure we were ok and enjoying the tour. He recommended other great places for us to see on our own. We learned a lot about Québec and Québecois. Best of all, he sent us an email about how to dress for the outdoors. It helped a lot with my pre-trip shopping. I followed his advice, and I have to say that I was never cold, despite the low temperatures and wind chill.
