You’ll discover magical places eatilled with a rich history in enchanting sceneries. You’ll learn the main facts and see the highlights of Quebec City’s historical center. Like the famous Place royale, Château Frontenac, City Hall and cathedrals (Catholic and Anglicane). Because this tour is seasonal, provided during winter only, we’ll focus on the influence of the cold season on historical events, local culture and architecture.
The Winter Walking Tour stands outside, in the quaint streets of Old Port & Petit Champlain (Lower Town) and Old Quebec (Upper Town), but we’ll make warm breaks inside buildings.
To tease you, here are some winter topics : Bonhomme Carnaval and the biggest winter carnaval of the world, impact of the ice bridge on the economy, ice canoeing, siege of 1775 with Benedict Arnold…
Important notice :
- The Musée de la Civilisation don’t sell any tickets for the Winter Walking Tour, they only greet us to meet each other and start.
- Please wear warm clothes, warm socks, warm shoes. Even if we do warm breaks, we’ll spend most of the time outside. Winter here is very cold and windy. Ski suits are useful and you should consider something warm like this.
How to get there ?
The Musée de la Civilisation has two entrances: one on Dalhousie Street and the other one on Saint-Pierre Street. The meeting location is inside the museum, nearby the boutique and Saint-Pierre entrance.
Xavier's tour was full of interesting history plus he gave us a personal view of Quebecois culture. He has a nice sense of humor and was open to our questions.
By Sherry (New York) on Airbnb (2019)Xavier was very knowledgeable about the city’s history. He made an effort to speak with individuals as we traveled between locations. He learnt the names of the group members quickly.

By Taylor (Ontario) on Airbnb (2019)We loved Xavier’s historical walking tour of Old Quebec. He was thoroughly informed and kind, which made it a wonderful way to see the city. Listen to Xavier and make sure you wear the proper clothing for cold weather as it was very cold
By Michele (Vancouver) on Airbnb (2019)A real professional, and very fun, guide who was attentive both to logistics and historical content. We really loved this introduction to the French presence on this continent via telling stories told at particular spots in the city. One of the best urban interpretations we have experienced among many cities worldwide. Recommended!
By Amy & Dave (British Columbia) on Airbnb (2019)Merci Xavier! Great tour with personal touches. We had a great time and time went by fast even in the cold weather.
By Nicole (Ontario) on Airbnb (2019)Xavier was very knowledgeable and nice. He interacted with everyone in the group. I would only suggest like a group excercise while standing in certain locations just to keep the body warm. Something fun like jumping jacks, or walking in pkace. Loved the history and the tour! Thanks Xavier!
By Vanessa (California) on Airbnb (2019)Xavier was super knowledgeable! the tour was interesting and he tells you a variety of stories, so there's definitely something for everyone. For winter tours, if you follow his advice on layering and taking care of your hands and feet, you'll be just fine.

He made good use of our time together sharing interesting anecdotes and his personal experiences along with historical facts. We would highly recommend this tour for travellers with an interest in history, culture, and/or architecture.
By Stanley (Ontario) on Airbnb (2019)All one needs to do is book the tour and follow the advice. The tour is designed perfectly according to the weather conditions of Quebec City in winter. We got to know so much about the history of Quebec within such a short span of time. He is extremely knowledgable and a great storyteller. He is courteous, encourages you to ask questions and took appropriate breaks. The tour exceeded my expectations. Thank you Xavier!
